This did not apply to RRD employees when the RRDs didn't hire for 15 yrs for a reduction in their workforce. We were forced to work 12 hr days, 7/24. We were given personal leave days per year & was told that we couldn't use them because they were short handed for crews. They went to far in not hiring for so long as to not pay benefits like health insurance for new guys. We had to tell them we were sick when we weren't in order to take care of family buisness even if you worked 20 days in a row. They actually wore down the existing workforce into sickness, fatigue & low morale for the major class RRds left in this country. Greedy investments in reducing RRD crews from 5 man working crews, Engineer, Firemen, Conductor, flagmen & head brakemen. Today they want a one man crew running a train. If that ever happens you wouldn't want any trains running through your neighborhood. Lack of sleep, sickness or ill health of an engineer is unsafe. Don't let the RRDs CEOs convince the public that they can do this in a safe manner. They broke so many Federal Laws while operating in unsafe manners that they didn't mind paying fines they were guilty of. I suspect this is going to be a big problem for a lot of jobs being able to call in sick as we called it marking off sick. I had a new engineer who had the flu & was PI$$ED OFF at him for not calling in sick & giving me the flu. His answer for not calling in sick was he was afraid of being fired & being a fairly new employee.
